UWC Youth Leadership Summer Course in China - 2010

High school and university students (aged 17-20) from all over the world are invited to join the UWC Youth Leadership Summer Course in China in 2010.

Applicants who are recommended by UWC National Committees (whether or not they are accepted as full-time UWC scholars) will be given top priority of acceptance into the Summer Course. The Summer Course will provide participants with an introductory UWC experience, whether or not they enroll in a full-time UWC program later on. In this way the Summer Course aims to make the UWC experience accessible to more young people, thereby adding considerable value to the UWC Movement by having more young people living the UWC ethic.  It is assumed that the more graduates of the UWC experience, the more effective we will become in fulfilling our mission.

The Summer Course will be an innovative experiential education program that enables young people to gain and apply leadership skills in the context of grassroots projects for economic, social and environmental development in a globalized world. Being in a developing country (China), the Summer Course allows participants to gain first-hand knowledge of the complexities and challenges involved.

The Summer Course is organized by current and former Red Cross Nordic UWC staff and students and will be hosted by two RCN-UWC partner institutions in China.

Applicants Nominated by UWC National Committees:

UWC National Committees can send their recommended applicants directly to csc@staff.rcnuwc.no by the deadline of April 15, 2010.

For these nominated applicants, Section C of Application Form does not need to be filled out by the applicant’s school official. Instead, a summary comment by the UWC National Committee would be sufficient. These applicants should pay the 100 Euros deposit, but the deposit (minus banking fees) is refundable if we cannot accommodate all the nominees by National Committees. (The 100 Euros deposit is part of the total fee of 1250 Euros, not in addition.)

We strive to have a truly global presence at the Summer Course. As the Summer Course needs to be self-funded and financial assistance is limited, we would appreciate a genuine assessment of the applicant’s need for aid by the UWC National Committee. Please include your assessment in the email.

Please feel free to write to Xiaohang Sumner at csc@staff.rcnuwc.no for any questions you might have.
